It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 4/26/2021
What I Read
I read so much this past week! Partially because verse novels are much faster to read and I also wasn’t feeling great this week which meant a lot of down time trying to rest and relax. Thankfully, I’m on the mend, and I got to read a lot of great books this week.
I’m actually caught up on my TBR review pile, through May right now! It’s a miracle! I read two graphic novels this week – Just Pretend by Tori Sharp and Shark Summer by Ira Marcks, both were really great and I can’t wait to see the finished product. Most galley copies of graphic novels aren’t printed in full color, so it’s always exciting to see the end result.
I also read two novels in verse this week (a perfect way to finish up Poetry Month) – Red, White, and Whole by Rajani LaRocca and We Belong by Cookie Hiponia Everman. I really enjoy novels in verse because there has to be such a focus on exactly what words to use because there are often so fewer words.
Finally, I also read another middle grade novel – Soul Lanterns by Shaw Kuzki set in Hiroshima a generation after the atomic bomb fell. This one was not an easy read, but a powerful one. And then I read a quick, historical romance adult book just for the fun of it – To Love and to Loathe by Martha Waters!
What I’m Planning to Read
I’m not quite sure what I want to read this week! I’ve got a couple of things lying around the house that I’ll probably finish up. The one is Deborah Hopkinson’s new book – We Must Not Forget: Holocaust Stories of Survival and Resistance. Deborah always does an amazing job bringing history to life. I also have Wild Survival: Crocodile Rescue! by Melissa Cristina Márquez from Scholastic. I just found them on my review shelf!
If I’ve got any extra time, I’ll probably check out the new shelf at work and grab a few middle grade titles! What’s your reading plan this week?
