Review:

I’m not a master of the comic format or graphic novels in the least. I have a tendency to believe that all the illustrators get in my way as a reader! But, I will say the more I try of the format, the more I enjoy! This book is not a graphic novel, in that the story doesn’t continue for 176 pages. Rather this is a comic book where each page or every few pages is a new storyline. Each storyline is just a handful of panels, like something you might see in the newspaper.

I found these little vignettes of Wallace and his family and friends to make me smile at the least and out-loud chuckle a couple of times. I love the hijinks that ensues when they get a crazy idea, the one-liners that land perfectly, and really the overall style of this small-town life with a big-imagination kid.

Verdict:

This is perfect for readers that want something short and sweet. Something that they can pick up and flip to any given page and read a couple for fun! This is (again) the third in a series, so you might want to start at the beginning, but I didn’t feel as though you need to.
