Slice of Life Day 24: Dogs In Gardens

I’ve mentioned before that we fenced in our corner lot to give our dog, Aria more room to run around. She’s an eight (?) year old rescue pit mix with lots of energy. Enough that people ask us if she’s still a puppy. Nope, she’s just crazy. So, she’s loving all the space now – does zoomies all over the yard, runs laps when she’s excited, and we get to get throw the ball more than 15 feet, which is fun.

With the warmer weather, Aria is really enjoying being outside. She’ll stay out for 20 minutes, come in, check on us and grab a drink, and then whine to go back outside. Right now it’s great because her allergies haven’t gotten bad, so she loves it and it’s not causing her to get all itchy. Yesterday, when I stopped home for lunch, Aria wanted to go outside. That was perfect, my partner and I had lunch and watched an episode of Drunk History – so funny! When I went back out to call Aria in, she didn’t come right away. Not uncommon (see – invisibility tree), but when I looked around the corner of the house, there she was – covered in dirt, standing in the middle of the vegetable garden.

Now, thankfully, I haven’t planted anything in there yet. And doubly thankfully, it’s been dry for a few days so I could just brush most of the dirt off of her rather than having to give her a bath. But, she was covered – all over her snout, up her nose, in her mouth, all along her side and belly. And she was just wagging her tail and smiling at us.

Now, it’s happened two days in a row and I’m seriously thinking I’ll have to use a wire fence that was originally used to ward off squirrels, rabbits, deer. But now it might have to be used to keep the dog out of the garden. She’s so ridiculous! Aria definitely keeps me on my toes, but she’s oh, so cute!

slice of life

This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!
