Slice of Life Day 20: Every Morning
Every morning, my routine is the same. Aria, my pit mix, wakes me up 20 minutes before the alarm. And every morning, I try to ignore her as she jumps on and off the bed, whining because she’s ready to start her day.Even if I’m awake, I don’t get out of bed until the alarm actually goes off.
Then I use the bathroom and throw on suitable clothes to walk around the neighborhood. As a local librarian, so many people say to me at work, “I saw you walking your dog!” Which to me, means I’m not going to go walking the dog in my pajama bottoms, although there are days when it is very tempting.
Then we go downstairs to put on shoes and coats and collars and whatnot. But, here’s the kicker, every morning Aria bumps the side table in the living room. And every morning she watches the lamp as it wobbles on the table. Every. single. morning. She doesn’t check the lamp wobble when we go for our evening walk or at any other time of day. But every morning, she checks.
What gets me is that if it’s windy outside and we have the windows open, she panics and eventually either hides in the bathroom downstairs or runs to the farthest corner of the yard. I think one time it was windy enough that the curtains blew against the lamp and knocked it over, so she remembers that.
But every morning, she checks to see if the lamp will still wobble.
This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!

I smiled as I read your story. As a fellow dog owner, I can totally relate to the way our fur babies are smarter than we think. I just hope that the lamp never falls over!

Me too! She’ll be scarred for life!
