Literati Kids – March Box

You’ve got to check out Literati Kids – a subscription box service that caters just to kids (or adults that love kid lit too). Each box includes five expertly curated age-appropriate books, original art, personalized book-cessories, and more! Check out my post from last month to see what I got! And let’s take a look at my Literati Kids – March Box!

And what I love about it, is you can try out the books for a week. Keep what you love and return the rest with a pre-paid shipping label! It’s so simple! And what’s even better – the prices are as low as Amazon or might even be less! Plus, if you use my link, you’ll receive an additional 25% off! It’s so simple and easy! Besides the books, you also get some cute extras that you get to keep – and they are legit!

So, because I don’t have kids of my own, I got to chose what club box I received. So I decided to try out the Club Sage box for kids ages 7 – 9. I always believe this is one of the hardest age groups to tackle for book suggestions because some kids may still be struggling to read the longer text by themselves, while others are extremely advanced. The Literati Kids description for this age group is so spot-on, my interest was piqued!

“Club Sage is home to budding independent readers. With early chapter book series, simple graphic novels, nonfiction and activity books, Sage curations promote discussion, inspire questions, and hone cognitive tools your child will use for years to come.”

But, they also have clubs for all ages groups from newborn to 13+ which means there’s literally a box for any kid! And what’s awesome is that the box includes a really great variety of titles that is sure to grab your kid’s attention!

What’s Included

Alright, so what’s in my Literati Kids box? This month’s theme is all about adventure with “riddles to solve, new skies to explore, histories, mysteries, wonders galore.” This box even got my partner’s attention with the awesome color lenses that change the images depending on what color you look through!

My box included some really adorable book-cessories – six personalized bookplates and a gorgeous poster that changes depending on how you look at it with the color lenses. The color lenses are red, blue, and green. So they’re kind of like 3D glasses, but you only look through one color at a time. What I love is that you can learn more about the artist, Carnovsky, on the back of the poster and even check it out online. It’s also really cool to note that the bookplates are made of the same RGB prints as the poster and one of the books and ties everything together.

Books Included

Now, for the books! This box included:

  • Sofia Martinez: My Family Adventure by Jacqueline Jules, illustrated by Kim Smith
I was already familiar with this title before, but it’s a perfect choice for the age group. Although written in “chapter format” each chapter is actually a short story. It’s very similar to the Yasmin series that bunches four stories together! 96 pages is totally doable when you’ve got four stories to read. Plus, I love the diversity and the sprinkling of Spanish throughout. And the author includes a glossary at the back if kids want to translate.
  • Henry Heckelbeck Gets a Dragon by Wanda Coven, illustrated by Priscilla Burris
I was so excited to see this book in the box! I’m already familiar with Heidi Heckelbeck, a chapter book series about a little girl who is a witch. This is all about her younger brother, similar to Judy Moody and her brother, Stink. This is a super cute chapter book and with lots of illustrations to support the text, 128 pages isn’t too daunting for early readers!
  • Dino Riders: How to Tame a Triceratops by Will Dare
This is a new-to-me book and it was super fun. I can definitely see kids loving the adventure of a Wild West frontier land with dinosaurs that never went extinct! In this first installment, Josh wants to be a dino cowboy, but he’s got the slowest dinosaur to ride. But, when he signs up for the big race, he’ll need help from his friends to tame a triceratops!
  • True Detective: Mind-Bending Visual Riddles for Young Sleuths
Alright, I’ll be honest, this book was SO hard! Each page gives you duplicates of the exact same image and you have to find the one that is different. They range in difficulty, but I had a really hard time finding the differences. Thankfully, there’s an answer key in the back, but even then I had trouble. I’d say that this might work better for an older audience, but it might also just depend on the kid!
  • Illumisaurus by Carnovsky, written by Lucy Brownridge
This is an awesome book! Coffee table in size, this book uses color lenses to show dinosaurs, the environment, and other animals living during the time. It’s really cool how each layer shows something different. I can completely see kids pouring over this book over and over again.

Final Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed receiving this book box! I loved that the books were diverse in terms of characters as well as formats. This month, I was familiar with one of the books already, but it’s an adorable story, so I’m definitely here for it. And I loved learning about a new character from a series I was already familiar with as well. The book-cessories were adorable and super fun for kids (and adults)! I think this would make an awesome gift for family or friends to give. And I think a wide variety of kids would really enjoy it!

Don’t forget, sign up for a Literati Kids book subscription using my link to receive an additional 25% off!

I received a Literati Kids Club Sage box from the company in exchange for an honest review.
