Slice of Life Day 12: Mansplaining
Yesterday we had a new microwave installed. It’s, unfortunately, a very long story. We replaced all of our kitchen appliances last summer and have had numerous problems with three out of four of them. The microwave was finally deemed unrepairable and after a new one was delivered (and not installed), we got it installed. Finally. Sadly, after sharing how I’m celebrating Women’s History Month yesterday, I got mansplained to by an installation/repairman.
I hate when a guy tries to mansplain something that I very much understand. And it’s not even in a helpful explanation way, but in a, “you’re a woman and you don’t understand because of that fact” kind of way. Apparently, the hole drilled in the cabinet wasn’t lining up with the hole in the microwave, so rather than trying to help us figure out a solution, this guy spoke with my partner because I “didn’t understand.” And yet, when I suggested a solution, he was all like, “yeah that could work.”
So. Very. Frustrating. I like to learn new things and I like to brainstorm solutions that will work. I don’t like being talked down to because of my gender.
This is my third year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be sharing brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. I hope you enjoy just a slice of my life as a librarian, book lover, and blogger!

This was a delicious slice of mansplain at its finest. Thanks for sharing it.

Ugh that’s frustrating. There was a store clerk who assumed my fiancé was paying because he was a man and when I said “no I can buy my own things”, he got mad at Nathan for not helping me or something.. some people are just full of it

That. is. incredibly. frustrating. I hope your husband backed you up! I once suggested a very good idea to our contractor and the guy looked at my husband and said, “That’s a great idea!” My husband had to step away and point to me to get the guy to acknowledge it was my idea!

I hope you did some womansplaining to that jerk. I don’t put up w/ that crap. We’ve been doing some major renovations around our home, so lots of men have had to learn I’m the one making the decisions, which is as my husband likes.

Ugh, the WORST! Did you just walk away?

Mansplaining is the worst! I love that you came up with a solution for something you “didn’t understand.”

That is so frustrating. It must have been so satisfying to have the right solution.
