It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 3/1/2021
What I Read
I’m cranky. And I know it’s because I’m not putting enough time into actually reading. This week I finished both books from last week, and that’s it. I finished up The Losers at the Center of the Galaxy by Mary Winn Heider and I’m listening to Three Keys by Kelly Yang. It’s not like I had a ton of plans all week – we’re still hanging out at home, but I just didn’t put in enough reading time. And I know, I can irritable and antsy when I’m not reading enough. So, here’s to a new week with the best intentions set.
The Losers at the Center of the Galaxy
I’m not sure I can explain it any better than this description from the publisher – “A tuba player without a tuba and his jellyfish-imitating sister cope with their father’s disappearance in this hilarious and moving novel .” I was familiar with Mary Winn Heider’s previous work and knew if this was anything similar that it would include some hijinks and it did. But, it also had a lot of heart. This is a perfect story for kids looking for something off-the-wall and emotional all at the same time.
Three Keys
I really enjoyed Front Desk and was excited to see that Kelly had a sequel coming out. I loved how real and very honest this story felt and after reading the back matter, I knew that Kelly felt very passionately about the topic. The story is also very realistic which I appreciated as it doesn’t shy away from the difficult world her characters lived in. I listened to part of the story on audio and read the other part. And I not much of an audiobook fan usually, but it kept me entertained on my long drive to my parents’ last weekend, so it definitely did the trick!
What I’m Planning to Read
New week, new reading plan! I’m in the middle of The Great Pet Heist by Emily Ecton and I’m going to read Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim. I’ve also got the first Bridgerton novel on hold from the library, so I want to read that quickly as well.
March is Women’s History Month, so I’m going to do something similar to what I did for Black History Month. This month, though, I’m going to focus on biographies of women. There are so many amazing picture book biographies available, so I’ll be posting a new title every day on my Instagram during the month of March. So, stop by and let me know what you think! There are so many amazing books to share!
