It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 2/1/2021
What I Read
This past week wasn’t too bad for reading – I got a chance to sit down with and read over the weekend too a little! I loving having my Winter Reading Challenge as a guide right now, it’s keeping me focused on some titles that I’ve wanted to read and just haven’t found time to. I have just one more to go and then it’s off to working on some review titles for upcoming publication dates!
Coo
I’m not always one for anthropomorphic characters. If you’re a regular here, you’ll know I’m not much of a fantasy reader at all. Coo was an interesting take with a human main character being raised by pigeons of all things! It was a much more interesting story than what I originally was expecting and I was so inspired, I made a quick pigeon book list last week!
The Girl Who Stole an Elephant
I just reviewed this book yesterday and I must say, if you’re looking for a quick pageturner, this is the book for you! It was full of adventure as three kids grow into friends as they save each other and themselves and just might help a revolutionary cause! A stolen elephant, stole my heart as he was a pretty awesome secondary character!
Get a Grip, Vivy Cohen!
An #ownvoices novel, this is the story of a young girl with autism playing on a baseball team, while writing to her favorite professional knuckleball pitcher. Regardless of Vivy’s disability, I think many kids will see themselves in her and relate to overprotective parents and changing dynamics at home as they grow up! This book won an Schneider Family Honor Award for it’s portrayal of a disability in children’s literature and I think it definitely deserved it!
All three of these books are part of my Winter Reading Challenge which I posted about a couple of weeks ago. This challenge is so nice because it’s longer than a month and not so long (year-long challenge) where I lose interest!
What I’m Planning to Read
It’s a snow day! My goal is to spend the majority of my day reading! I just started The One and Only Bob by Katherine Applegate last night, so that’s up first! And it’s the last title for me to complete my Bit About Books Winter Reading Challenge! After that, I’ve got some ARCs that I’d love to start working on – The Mending Summer by Ali Standish, Ground Zero by Alan Gratz, and The Losers at the Center of the Galaxy by Mary Winn Heider.
I’m also going to be shouting out a different Black creator every day on my Instagram during the month of February. So you’ll definitely want to pop over there and take a look!
It’s Black History Month, are you reading any books by amazing Black creators?
