It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 1/25/2021
What I Read
Work really gets in the way of my reading time! I was a Saturday Librarian again this week. And yes, it’s a thing. Check Twitter on any given Saturday for the hashtag #SaturdayLibrarian and you’ll see a host of librarians commiserating together! It’s definitely a time suck on the majority of my reading time for the weekend. I’m also helping my sister plan her wedding, so we jumped on Zoom to hash out a few details on Sunday, so my reading time was greatly reduced this weekend.
Simon B. Rhymin’
I finished Simon B. Rhymin’ at the beginning of the week and really loved the characters and storyline. You can tell the author is a teacher in his writing style. As I mentioned in my review last week, this would be a great book discussion title!
Blackbird Fly
This is a really powerful story of a girl striving to fit into a world that is not only confusing but cruel at times. Eventually, she realizes the importance of real friends and that the opinions of bullies really don’t matter. With the help of her friends she realizes she doesn’t need to change who she is, but rather embrace it.
Coo
I’m in the middle of Coo right now and super intrigued by the story. A young girl is being raised by a flock of pigeons. But when one of her flock is injured, she must make her way to the ground and search for help. I’m excited to see where it goes!
All three of these books are part of my Winter Reading Challenge which I posted about three weeks ago. This challenge is so nice because it’s longer than a month and not so long (year-long challenge) where I lose interest!
What I’m Planning to Read
I’ll be finishing up Coo by Kaela Noe this week. Plus, I’ve got The One and Only Bob from the library which is ready to go. I should have some time to also read The Girl Who Stole an Elephant by Nizrana Farook which I received from the publisher as an ARC. And finally, the ALA Youth Media Awards are announced today, which will give me the last title I need for my challenge!
What are you planning to read as we move into the next month?
