It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 8/17/2020

Last Week

You Should See Me In a Crown by Leah Johnson was such a great YA read! Leah Johnson created a setting that is so familiar to many of us. A high school during prom season in all its glory (depending on who you ask). And also created a character in Liz which I could empathize with – that feeling of not fitting in. But, I can also acknowledge how difficult her life was in comparison to my straight, white privilege. It’s the mark of a good author who can connect a reader and their character even when their life experiences are very different. I, too, grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone else’s business. Prom season wasn’t quite like Campbell’s, but football was king and popular kids ruled the school. I didn’t love high school like Liz, I couldn’t wait for college!

Filled with diversity at every turn, You Should See Me In a Crown doesn’t feel like it’s trying to check off the boxes. I don’t need to create the checklist either, but if you’re looking for a contemporary romance that you won’t want to put down, grab this title off the shelf!

Reading List for Week of 8/17/2020

So, I didn’t get to pick up Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo yet. But it’s on the top of the pile for this week. As I’m currently averaging a book a week (if I’m lucky) this should keep me occupied for the next few days.

What have you read recently that you can’t put down?
