Dudley’s Day at Home

Synopsis:

Dudley's Day at Home

“’What does Dudley do all day while we’re away?’ Sam wonders. Mom explains that Dudley does ordinary dog things: he eats, naps, guards the house, and plays. But in Sam’s mind, Dudley’s day at home is anything but ordinary. Delightful digital paintings depict the human activities Sam imagines Dudley is doing – which don’t quite match Mom’s explanations. Dudley’s Day at Home is a funny, fetching picture book that uses minimal text and maximal visual storytelling to share a day in a dog’s life.”

Review:

For kids with pets who might wonder how they keep themselves busy all day long, this is the perfect book! I love Sam’s imaginative view on his Mom’s descriptions of what Dudley does while he’s at home. I’m pretty sure my pup sleeps all day when we’re not home – nothing as exciting as what Dudley does.

Dudley practicing tricks

Sam’s thoughts of Dudley as he practices tricks, makes pancakes for breakfast, and jumping on the bed had that feeling where you need to really look at the illustrations to “get” the story! I especially loved the part when Sam imagines what Dudley is thinking he and his mom do all day while they’re away.

This book reminded me so much of Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann. Officer Buckle takes his job as a policeman very seriously teaching kids about safety while Gloria is in the background doing tricks!

This is a fun and adorable story about a little boy, his best friend and a whole lot of imagination!
