Kidlit Rally for Black Lives
Kwame Alexander has organized a Kidlit Rally for Black Lives hosted by The Brown Bookshelf. As if I could love him anymore? Organized by Black authors and illustrators, the Brown Bookshelf was “designed to push awareness of the myriad Black voices writing for young readers.”
They have some amazing book lists, articles, interviews, and more available on their website. The original claim to fame for The Brown Bookshelf is 28 Days Later. Each day during Black History Month, the team highlights Black children’s book creators. These titles are for all ages and allow parents, educators, and librarians a chance to discover new titles. This summer they’ve created a Generations Book Club with a theme for each month and titles for all ages from picture books to adult books!
On June 4, 2020, on Facebook Live, the Brown Bookshelf will host a Kidlit Rally for Black Lives. Members of the Kidlit Community will offer conversation and a call to action. What I love, is that they’re focusing on talking with young people first from 7-7:45 pm EST. Then, they’ll follow up with a talk for parents, educators, and librarians from 7:45-8 pm EST.
With authors and publishers alike taking part, I’m excited to be a part. This is my chance to listen and learn. See you on Facebook Live!
There are some amazing book lists being circulated on social media bringing awareness to Black children and YA creators and their work. If you’re looking for even more titles, check out 16 Books with Black Characters Written by Black Authors.
