Virtual Author Visits
Last night was a busy night for me as I attended a couple of virtual author visits! I attended the Book Expo Children’s Author Breakfast turned virtual dinner with Judy Blume, Natalie Portman, Misty Copeland, Raj Haldar, Marie Lu, and Kwame Mbalia. It was so interesting to hear each of them speak about their upcoming books, their inspiration, and the way they work. Plus, getting a glimpse of their bookshelves was so cool!
Afterward, I jumped on a Zoom author visit with Michelle Kadarusman which was much more intimate. There were probably 16 people on the call and we were able to ask questions and hear about her new book, Music for Tigers which I reviewed just yesterday!
It was so interesting to hear all of the authors in the span of 2.5 hours from the comfort of my couch. I think getting the chance to interact with the children’s book world’s creatives is such a wonderful thing! Learn how everyone has their own unique process, catch a glimpse of their workspace, and just learn about them as human beings.
You’ve got to check out what some of your favorite authors and illustrators are doing online – many have posted videos, held virtual book launches, and are also nice enough to respond to social media posts as well. I’ve posted about how exciting meeting book creators can be on my blog before.
Here’s a list that I created for a Top Ten Tuesday theme of authors I’d like to meet! Who would you love to meet in person or even online?
