It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 5/25/2020

Last Week

I’m a reading machine right now! At the beginning of the pandemic, I was having trouble focusing on any books and now it’s like books are as important to me as breathing! Alright, maybe not that important, but without being as social, books have become my escape from the world! This week I read seven books!

  • The Stone of Sorrow by Brooke Carter
I thought this book showed a lot of promise and I really liked the idea, but the plot just wasn’t paced as well as I thought it could have been to get a better result. The Icelandic mythology was pretty cool though!
  • They Went Left by Monica Hesse
This is a powerful YA novel about what happened after the liberation of the concentration camps in 1945. It follows the story of Zofia as she searches for her brother across Europe, all while managing her own physical and mental health after the atrocities she endured.
  • When Stars are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed
A close-up look, in a graphic novel format of two brothers living in a refugee camp in Kenya.
  • Rick by Alex Gino
A story of searching for and standing up for yourself, no matter where you are on your journey.
  • Music for Tigers by Michelle Kadarusman
I loved Michelle Kadarusman’s Girl of the Southern Sea and I especially love when an author can write something completely different and just as good!
  • Ways to Make Sunshine by Renée Watson
A great older chapter book for kids looking for more representation who love Ramona Quimby, Judy Moody, and Clementine.
  • The Space Between Lost and Found by Sandy Stark-McGinnis
The heartbreaking story of a mom’s early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and a daughter who will do anything to help her remember.

Reading List for Week of 5/25/2020

I’ve already started In the Role of Brie Hutchens… by Nicole Melleby and will probably finish it today with having they day off! Three day weekends are absolutely the loveliest thing in the world! I have just three more April releases on my TBR list that I’d like to finish this week, so that I stay only a month behind in my reading.

Granted, there are plenty of titles that I don’t actually have access to yet (I use the library a lot!). But, I feel like I’m finally making some progress with all the books I picked up at conferences this winter! And I’ve been so good about not reading my contemporary romances and getting to these ARCs (but I might just have to sneak one in this week!).

Here’s what’s up next:

  • This Is My Brain In Love by I. W. Gregorio
  • Lifting as We Climb: Black Women’s Battle for the Ballot Box by Evette Dionne
  • Echo Mountain by Lauren Wolk
  • Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
