It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 5/18/2020

Last Week

Before the coronavirus hit, my partner and I had planned a few home improvement projects that we’re now finally able to start working on (with contractors being allowed to work again). Besides a new roof (and gutters) and a fence for the dog, we’ve been looking at getting new appliances for our kitchen. Our microwave works about 75% of the time and the handle broke years ago. Our oven runs hot and cooks unevenly, but is usable. And our refrigerator which has always made some strange noises is getting worse. We figure that while everything mostly works, we should research what we want and get ready for a big sale.

Needless to say, researching home improvement projects and appliances within our budget sure sucks up a lot of my time! That being said, I did read three titles this week! I really loved Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know by Samira Ahmed and wrote a review this past week about it. Anything with art history and a mystery – count me in! I also read We Didn’t Ask for This by Adi Alsaid, a YA ecological protest story that set at an international school. And honestly? I’m still processing the story, but kind of love how well the story shows a teen’s passion for what’s important to her. And finally, I finished the weekend with a time-traveling hip hop middle grade story steeped in Black history and culture.

Reading List for Week of 5/18/2020

I’m still plugging away at my endless shelf of TBR titles! Below is the list of titles that were published in April that I still have yet to read (minus the last two books, which I grabbed from the library). There’s no way I’ll be getting to them all this week, but a number of them are under 300 pages so it’s worth a shot!

Here’s what’s up next:

  • The Stone of Sorrow by Brooke Carter
  • They Went Left by Monica Hesse
  • When Stars are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed
  • This Is My Brain In Love by I. W. Gregorio
  • Lifting as We Climb: Black Women’s Battle for the Ballot Box by Evette Dionne
  • In the Role of Brie Hutchens… by Nicole Melleby
  • Echo Mountain by Lauren Wolk
  • Rick by Alex Gino
  • Music for Tigers by Michelle Kadarusman
  • Ways to Make Sunshine by Renée Watson
  • The Space Between Lost and Found by Sandy Stark-McGinnis
  • The Kissing Game by Marie Harte
  • Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
