It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 5/4/2020
Last Week
I’m doing really well with my reading the past few weeks. I’ve made it a point to try and read at least a little each day and I really think it’s been wonderful for my mental health! I read four more middle grade books this week!
- The Queen Bee and Me by Gillian McDunn
Gillian McDunn has a wonderful way of getting into the mind of a middle grader. I loved her first book Caterpillar Summer and this one was equally great! It’s the perfect book to hand to a girl in middle school who is dealing with a friendship that might not be in her best interest anymore. It would make a wonderful book discussion title for the age group as well! - How to Make Friends with the Sea by Tanya Guerrero
I loved this debut title! It’s been on my list for a while and was well worth reading. I loved the Filipino backdrop, the focus on family and friendship, and managing anxiety and OCD. I have some people close to me that also manage these illnesses and getting the chance to read about them always helps me to understand them more. - The Big Break by Mark Tatulli
This graphic novel is going to be well-loved in my library! Another story about growing apart from friends and about the Jersey Devil (so close to us geographically). - Wink by Rob Harrell
A close-up look at one kid’s cancer battle, Wink, doesn’t shy away from the bad days and balances the tough times with those moments when everything is alright. This story is based on the author’s own experience with cancer and I think that close up look really works here.
Reading List for Week of 5/4/2020
I’m currently a month behind in reading all the ARCs I have on my TBR and bookshelf! Apparently the first week of April (of which I’m reading in May) was a huge week for publishing! I’ve got 11 titles on my desk to dive into! Plus, I picked up a few contemporary romances from the library when I went in to collect the mail and pay the bills which I’ll probably sneak into my pile too! SO. MANY. BOOKS.
