Books & Cooks Letter Y: Yerba Buena
This year I’m going to be combining two of my passions – cooking and kid lit for Books & Cooks! I’ll be bringing you great recipes based on spices of the alphabet that pair perfectly with kid lit books! Next up? The letter Y and the sweet Yerba Buena!
Spice: Yerba Buena
Yerba buena is actually a number of plants, mainly mint that is translated from Spanish into “good herb.” Spearmint is an easy plant to grow in a container or in your garden. In fact, it can easily take over your garden so be smart about where you plan on planting it!
Book Review: Yaffa and Fatima
This is a sweet story of two girls – one who is Jewish and the other Muslim. And although they practice different faiths, they aren’t so different themselves! This sweet folktale with both Jewish and Arab origins is a perfect example of how being kind transcends all else.
Recipe: Limonana – Frozen Mint Lemonade
Limonana is an extremely popular drink across the Middle East and I can totally understand why. It’s a refreshing take on lemonade with mint and is frozen! I’m definitely going to be trying this one this summer – perfect for a hot, sunny day!
During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge 2020. For my theme this year (Books & Cooks), I’ll be combing children’s books with cooking spices and including a recipe to bring the book into your very own kitchen! I love to cook and read, so I thought this would be a fun way to combine two of my passions. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Let’s dig in! And if you want to see what I’ve done in the past, check out the past few years – 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019!

I really like mint. And lemon. I’ll have to try that drink. And the book sounds like a great read!
I hope you and yours are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time.
