It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 4/20/2020

Last Week

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m tired. I’m tired of COVID-19. But, I know I’m also extremely lucky and blessed, my family is healthy, I have access to the food and resources that I need, and I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with friends and family all around the world.

I seem to be working more now, than when I had set hours at the library and I think emotionally the unknown makes me more tired that I would typically be. And that leads to less reading. Right now, I’m trying to acknowledge that it’s okay to do what I can do. My expectations were to have a lot more reading done by April and I am currently weeks behind where I want to be for my galley copies. But, again, I have to remember how lucky I am.

That being said, I was able to read Goldie Vance: The Hotel Whodunit by Lilliam Rivera – a mystery set in the 1960s. I had a little difficulty with the main character. It read and is marketed as a middle grade novel, but the main character is 16, so that felt a little different.

I also read The Derby Daredevils: Kenzie Kickstarts a Team by Kit Rosewater and illustrated by Sophie Escabasse. I loved this early middle grade novel about friendship, teamwork, and roller derby! This is a great book for young girls who are looking to find a new friend group or who may be having difficulty as a friendship changes. This is definitely a must-read!

Reading List for Week of 4/20/2020

I’ve got a big goal this week and I doubt that I’ll be able to finish all four of these books, but I’m going to give it a go! This week, my first read is going to be Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy. I’ve been shying away from this book, probably because it’s a fantasy. Fantasy novels aren’t my typical “go-to” books, but I’m all about expanding my horizons!

I’ve also got two middle grade novels – When You Know What I Know by Sonja K. Solter and The Only Black Girls In Town by Brandy Colbert. Plus, I’ve got a YA book that I can’t wait to read – Tigers, Not Daughters by Samantha Mabry! Here’s hoping I can read at least a couple of these books before next Monday. Happy Reading!
