Books & Cooks Letter O: Oregano
This year I’m going to be combining two of my passions – cooking and kid lit for Books & Cooks! I’ll be bringing you great recipes based on spices of the alphabet that pair perfectly with kid lit books! Next up? The letter O and aromatic oregano!
Spice: Oregano
Oregano is extremely aromatic and there are different types of oregano in different cultures. Oregano is another spice that is used in cooking around the world in many different dishes. I decided to focus on a Greek dish as I love the fresh flavors in Greek cooking and this salad looked perfect!
Book Review: Echo Echo: Reverso Poems About Greek Myths by Marilyn Singer
Have you seen any of these reverso poem books by author, Marilyn Singer? They’re absolutely amazing! You read the poem in one direction and then it’s repeated backwards and takes on an entirely different meaning! I can’t write poetry to save my life let alone a poem that works both forward and backwards! In this specific collection, readers will recognize common mythical stories from Ancient Greece. If you’ve never gotten a chance to see these poems in action with the gorgeous illustrations, definitely take a look!
Recipe: Greek Quinoa Salad
I love a salad that offers protien and that’s exactly what this salad provides in the quinoa and chickpeas! With fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and a topping of feta, this salad looks delicious! If you’ve never made your own salad dressing, you don’t know what you’re missing – it’s so simple and so tasty! Plus, you don’t have to worry about all the extra preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce. I think this salad would be a tasty meal on a hot summer day with a nice glass of crisp white wine! Yum!
During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge 2020. For my theme this year (Books & Cooks), I’ll be combing children’s books with cooking spices and including a recipe to bring the book into your very own kitchen! I love to cook and read, so I thought this would be a fun way to combine two of my passions. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Let’s dig in! And if you want to see what I’ve done in the past, check out the past few years – 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019!

Wow! Those reverso poems sound incredible.

I’ve read her two books of reverso poems based on fairy tales, but I hadn’t seen this one based on Greek myths. The artist who does the illustrations does an amazing job, too.

The illustrations and the poetry make these books such a fun way to introduce poetry to kids! I can’t imagine how difficult they would be to write!
