Books & Cooks Letter F: Fenugreek

This year I’m going to be combining two of my passions – cooking and kid lit for Books & Cooks! I’ll be bringing you great recipes based on spices of the alphabet that pair perfectly with kid lit books! Next up? The letter F and maple-y fenugreek!

Letter F

Spice: Fenugreek

If you’ve ever made an Indian curry at home and felt like something was missing, I’ll bet it was this spice! Fenugreek is often described as tasting like maple syrup and having a nutty flavor while still not being very sweet either. It’s basically an enigma and sounds like something weird to add to a savory dish, but it’s amazing! Trust me.

Book Review: All Aboard for the Bobo Road by Stephen Davies

Meet Fatima and Golo, siblings who are helping their dad load up his bus as they travel around Burkina Faso. Colors and counting opportunites abound in this fun adventure for little ones! And you can’t beat the illustrations which are bright and attractive and invite readers to explore all the people and things that board the bus at every stop. This is a fun picture book read aloud for kids and adults to share together!

Recipe: African Peanut Stew

I was skeptical of adding peanut butter to a stew (I’m also hesitant about peanut butter in Asian dishes as well). But I tried a similar recipe and LOVED it! It was so flavorful and delicious! This specific recipe comes from Sierra Leone, but many cultures in Africa have their own variation of Peanut stew. This recipe is also British, so a few things are measured differently than what we’re used to. Unfortunately, we’re leaving soup season where I live, but if you get a cold, rainy day – do yourself a favor and try this stew!

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge 2020. For my theme this year (Books & Cooks), I’ll be combing children’s books with cooking spices and including a recipe to bring the book into your very own kitchen! I love to cook and read, so I thought this would be a fun way to combine two of my passions. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Let’s dig in! And if you want to see what I’ve done in the past, check out the past few years – 201620172018, and 2019!
