Slice of Life Day 26: Work from Home
Yesterday was my first official work from home day. I’ll tell you, I feel a little more relaxed knowing that we’re at least at this point for two weeks now. The stress of the unknown every day was getting to me for sure. Never knowing what the next press conference would announce, trying to keep staff safe and away from each other, plus just keeping the library running through countless meetings and emails.
I settled in early and was super productive all morning. I was able to connect with my staff through email, clean up some things in my email, respond to emails, and work on some social media posts for the next few days. It’s definitely difficult not popping over to someone’s workspace to ask a quick question or check-in. But, I was able to get a lot of information out to the staff and feel much better knowing where we stand right now.
It’s not easy serving the public when you work from home at least right now. I learned how to use some new software so that when I create Facebook Live videos my books are being read “backward.” Plus, I’ve been able to connect with some patrons who have questions or are requesting access to our eLibrary, so that’s been exciting too.
And I was able to plan out my next few days this week, so I feel better knowing what I have to work on and what needs my focus during the day. I hope everyone is doing what they can to stay safe and healthy!
This is my second year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be posting brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. A slice of my life as a librarian and blogger that I hope you enjoy!
