Top Ten Tuesday: Magical Realism in Middle Grade Fiction
Since today was a Genre Freebie theme, I decided to go with one of my favorite sub-genres – magical realism and in one of my favorite age groups – middle grade fiction. Magical realism is a touch of magic in an otherwise very real setting. Check out these great examples and really good stories!
Top Ten Tuesday: Magical Realism in Middle Grade Fictaion
- Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate
- Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan
- Hour of the Bees by Lindsay Eagar

Books that contain magical realism often have purple covers… who knew? If you want more middle grade books with purple covers, check these out!

Magical realism and middle grade are two of my favourite things to read but I don’t often read ‘middle grade magical realism’. I am curious about When You Trap a Tiger, though.

I absolutely enjoyed it! Did you read When the Mountain Meets the Moon? It has a similar feel combining folktales with the story.

I have not read When the Mountain Meets the Moon, but I do love When the Sea Turns to Silver! Good to know.

You definitely need to add it to your list! It’s so, so, so good!
