It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 3/23/2020

Last Week

So who knew trying to work during a global pandemic is absolutely exhausting? I’d get home after a workday and barely have enough energy to make dinner and stay awake to blog, let alone read anything. I am mentally and emotionally drained, trying my hardest not to freak out, while also trying to check in with family and friends to see how everyone’s doing.

I’ve read half a book this week. One half. And it’s not because it’s bad, in fact, just the opposite – it’s so good, I just keep falling asleep after reading only five pages or so. I’m reading Mulan: Before the Sword by Grace Lin. And Grace Lin has done what she does best to integrate a story with folklore for a really unique take on storytelling.

Reading List for Week of 3/23/2020

Maybe this new high level of stress will become more normal and I’ll get more reading done this week. I have Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi, The Blackbird Girls by Anne Blankman, and Most Likely by Sarah Watson to still read. Plus, I should be able to finish the Mulan book in the next day or two.

I’m not stressing out too much about reading right now. I’m taking it easy and getting done what I can do and making sure to check in with myself to make sure I’m not overdoing it. A little yoga, a few naps and I started a puzzle just for something different to do.

How are you handling being stuck at home? Reading more or less?

I’m reading less, between trying to find time to work with my daughter at home, keeping up with the news, and keeping up with friends and family. Plus I’m finding it hard to immerse myself in books – real life keeps intruding. I hope you can find more reading time this week!

Hi Jen! I know what you mean – you’d think being stuck at home would be perfect for more reading time. I’m hoping that I can focus a little more on reading this week!

Take care of yourself! It’s a hard time indeed. Do what you need to do, but make sure you squeeze in a bit of me time. I am excited to come across your blog! It brings me joy. I have The Blackbird Girls in my stack to read in the coming days. I am eager to dive in! I just started a new blog yesterday so I am excited to connect with other #mglit bloggers like yourself. – Sierra

Hi Sierra! Welcome and thanks for stopping by! I’m definitely going to swing by your blog and check it out! I’m trying to fit in some yoga and just started a jigsaw puzzle to get my mind off things for a bit!
