Slice of Life Day 9: Paint and Re-Paint
My partner and I have spent a lot of time renovating our home since we bought it six years ago. We’ve painted almost every room in the house, added a full-length bookshelf to our office (Pinterest success!) and completely renovated our lower level including garage, rec room, and bathroom. One room we hadn’t attacked yet was our spare room. It’s a small room that would be perfect for a one-person office or nursery.
So about three weeks ago, I decided we were going to finally tackle painting it. It had been a kid’s room at one time so there were pinholes all over the walls from hanging posters and it needed a complete refresh. I had found a color I liked from one brand of paint, but I wasn’t a fan of how the paint laid on the walls. So, I asked if they could match the color from another brand. Picked up the paint and went home and started painting. Fast forward through a difficult paint job and a trip to pick up another gallon of paint and I hated the color. It wasn’t even an, “I might get used to it.” It was completely, “This is horrible!” It laid much too blue and looked to French Country for what I was going for.
Before I left for a conference, I moved all the furniture back in hoping it would get better… it didn’t. Even with the furniture, the color just wasn’t what I had in mind. So, when I got back from my conference, my mom convinced me to spend the money and re-paint it. I didn’t have any desire to re-paint a room that I just painted only weeks before. But, I did it. I moved all the furniture into the center of the room, covered everything in drop clothes and downloaded a few podcasts to get me through. And I absolutely LOVE the way it turned out. It’s so pretty now!
It’s a lesson that I learn over and over again. If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again. It’s now a beautiful dark gray that leans to a blue-green color depending on the lighting. It’s called Ocean Swell, which is also why I love it!
This is my second year participating in the Slice of Life Challenge. I’ll be posting brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. A slice of my life as a librarian and blogger that I hope you enjoy!
