Slice of Life Day 8: Daylight Saving Time

It’s the dreaded Daylight Saving Time! That’s correct, I’ve been calling it Daylight Savings Time, which is not right. I don’t necessarily mind in the fall when we gain an extra hour, but in the spring when we lose an hour, it’s wicked. Arai, my pup bases much of her day on a schedule and she’s not going to be happy that her walk and her dinner are an hour later tonight!

There is a lot of conflicting information about Daylight Saving Time that I found online. I had always heard that it was put in place to help farmers before electricity, when in fact it was popularized during World War I. Some say Benjamin Franklin was the father of Daylight Saving Time, which is also untrue. Englishman, William Willett’s name is attached to modern Daylight Saving Time. What I was surprised to find is that a version of Daylight Saving Time is used in over 70 countries worldwide, but is not a specific day or amount of time. Each country has created its own version.

It’s funny how just changing your schedule an hour can affect you so much! It’s almost 9am and yet I feel like I just woke up a few minutes ago! Thankfully, today I don’t have too much going on, just running some errands and working on my blog, which means that a nap will be happening this afternoon.

And if you tend to be a little superstitious, this week is Daylight Saving Time, a full moon and a Friday the 13th!
