Wear a Cardigan and Spread Kindness

World Kindness Day

November 13th is World Kindness Day, an international observance created in 1998. Each year, it is celebrated to “highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” (Wikipedia)

This year, WQED, Pittsburgh’s public broadcasting network and home to the beloved Mr. Rogers, is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a Year of Kindness. And they’re asking everyone to spread a little kindness in the spirit of Fred Rogers by wearing a cardigan for World Kindness Day!

So as any good librarian, I’m wearing my cardigan at work, plus I’m planning to bring in doughnuts for the whole staff. The library has been running between 77 and 80 degrees with an HVAC system that is causing just a few problems. Everyone on staff is doing their best to stay positive, so I’m hoping doughnuts might brighten everyone’s spirits!

As for posting on my blog, here are 24 Picture Books About Kindness to share with your little ones. Kindness is something our world could always use a little more of and these books can open up a wonderful conversation about the importance of being kind.
