Four on Friday: Feisty Foxes

I took the pup for a longer walk than I usually do in the morning today. And during my walk, I was trying to figure out what to share on the blog today. And an encounter with a red fox inspired me to share today’s post – Four on Friday: Feisty Foxes. We’re heading out to my parents’ home for the holiday weekend which should be beautiful. But, Aria can get a little rammy in the car during a five-hour drive. There’s a beautiful park that we walk through in our neighborhood. It has a rambling creek and tall trees that make you feel like you’ve stepped out of the suburbs and walked straight into nature.

This morning, beside the typical birds we usually see out and about, we had a few surprise guests! We startled a deer and saw just its behind as it leapt away into the trees. And then across the field, I saw a fox slinking along the edge of the underbrush. It just stared at us as we were far enough away not to be a threat. Then it continued on, in what I believe was its search for breakfast.

My morning encounter with this surprise visitor inspired me to create this quick booklist all about foxes. National Geographic also has a great easy reader nonfiction title: National Geographic Readers: Foxes that would make for a great compliment to learn more about this lovely animal that often lives parallel to the humans in its environment.
