10th Annual Picture Book 10 for 10: Kindness
Picture Book 10 for 10 is an annual event to share picture books you love with fellow book lovers! I’ve been participating for a few years and like to choose a new theme each year. Previous themes have included – Sing Along, Owls, and Wordless Picture Books. Today’s theme is Picture Book 10 for 10: Kindness.
I wanted to focus on something that seems to be a bit lacking in today’s society. The news is full of awful stories, social media is filled with angry tweets, posts, and messages. But, if you look closely kindness prevails. Communities come together, strangers pay it forward and those small acts of kindness should not be ignored.
And I can’t think of a better way to kick off the school year than to share an expectation that kindness matters and these books can help start that conversation. Fiction is shown to help children develop empathy and build interpersonal skills. And as more and more schools are looking at how to help kids increase their social-emotional learning as well as their “book smarts” I think reading fiction is a great place to begin.

Welcome back! Such lovely titles!!! It has been interesting to read through the posts and see the common thread pulling through most: the power of books to heal hearts and help make the world a better place (when it really needs it).
