Summer of Nonfiction: Encyclopedias
Is there a kid in your life who won’t necessarily sit down and read a novel? But, if you hand them the Guinness Book of World Records you won’t see them for a couple of hours? My Summer of Nonfiction: Encyclopedias list are nonfiction titles are for that kid – the fact-loving, “I don’t like to read” kids who love to store those crazy facts in their head and share them with just about anyone!
If you have one of these kids, then embrace it! Find all the weird and wacky fact books you can because even if they don’t think they’re “reading”, guess what? They are. Try finding them other nonfiction with lots of infographics, breakout boxes, and images to encourage long-form reading or find a magazine that piques their interest and subscribe or borrow it from the library. People are different and that includes their reading habits, so embrace them and fill their bookshelves with the things they’ll love!

I’m so excited to try something new this summer! I’m going to be highlighting nonfiction titles for a variety of age groups and in different styles. I plan on creating lists for different age groups – picture books, middle grade, and young adult. Plus, I’d like to take a look at format as well – books filled with facts, narrative non-fiction, and graphic novel format as well.
