It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 7/22/19

Last Week

It’s been such a busy week! And I’m excited to say I survived the excessive heat all weekend. It was positively disgusting when I took the pup for a very brief walk around the block at 9:30 at night and the feels like temperature was still at 100˚ F. Thankfully, the weather should be in the mid-80s the rest of the week and I honestly can’t wait.

I was a reading machine this week! In fact, I finished four titles and am in the middle of a fifth! I finished The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue by Karina Yan Glaser and Karina continues to impress me as I fall more in love with the Vanderbeeker family in every book. Afterward, I also read Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling. The story takes place at the beginning of 9th grade, which you don’t see a lot in upper middle grade/ early young adult books. I liked this one as well, especially as Aven continues to deal with other kids’ responses to her disability.

Then I realized after scrolling through Twitter, that I had forgotten about the MG @ Heart Summer Bingo! So I read two titles I picked up at ALA that were also on my summer bingo list – Girl of the Southern Sea by Michelle Kadarusman and Silver Meadows Summer by Emma Otheguy. Both were extremely well written and I want to talk about them more in-depth in their own posts. And then I started The Distance to Home by Jenn Bishop. I’m just in the beginning pages, but already interested in a sports story with a female protagonist.

Reading List for Week of 7/22/19

As for what else I have planned this week, I’m thinking about getting deeper into that Summer Bingo list and placed on hold:

  • The Battle of Junk Mountain by Lauren Abbey Greenberg
  • Summer of a Thousand Pies by Margaret Dilloway
  • Lizzie Flying Solo by Nancy Turner Steveson
  • Maybe a Mermaid by Josephine Cameron

What are your reading plans this week?
