Four on Friday: Ramadan Picture Books
People of the Muslim faith are currently celebrating Ramadan from May 5 – June 4. The month is spent fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to a Sharing Ramadan event at a local mosque. I really enjoy learning more about the Islamic faith. Plus, I get a chance to reach out into the community even more. Here are a few picture books about Ramadan that can be shared with children who might have questions about the annual observance.
- The White Nights of Ramadan by Maha Addasi
- Lailah’s Lunchbox: A Ramadan Story by Reem Faruqi
- Night of the Moon: A Muslim Holiday Story by Hena Khan
- Ramadan Moon by Na’ima B. Robert
*I chose to select titles that were written by own voices. Which means, that the authors of these stories are Muslim and celebrate Ramadan. Other titles you might be interested in include My First Ramadan by Karen Katz and Rashad’s Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr by Lisa Bullard.
