Blogging From A to Z Challenge – Asian Protagonists

It’s the first official day of the Blogging From A to Z Challenge and I’m focusing on Asian Protagonists. Asia is a HUGE continent and there was no way I could represent the entire continent, but take a look at these twelve books from across the continent. I purposely left out the countries of the Middle East as I’ll be using that area of the world for the letter “M”. I tried to provide a wide array of genres and styles both fiction and non-fiction! Enjoy!

  1. Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad by M.T. Anderson (Russia)
  2. Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao (East Asia inspired fantasy)
  3. What Elephants Know by Eric Dinerstein (Nepal)
  4. The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani (Indian/Pakistan)
  5. Front Desk by Kelly Yang (China)
  6. Want by Cindy Pon (Taiwan)
  7. American Panda by Gloria Chao (Taiwan)
  8. The House That Lou Built by Mae Respicio (Philippines)
  9. Chef Roy Choi and the Street Food Remix by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and June Jo Lee (Korea)
  10. Bamboo People by Mitali Perkins (Myanmar, formally Burma)
  11. Samurai Rising: The Epic Life of Minamoto Yoshitsune by Pamela S. Turner (Japan)
  12. The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis (Afghanistan)
