Slice of Life Day 19: What I’m Reading
I’m a complete nerd when it comes to my interests outside of work – I love children’s literature (as is obvious from my blog). I love reading it, talking about it, and sharing it with others. So, when I was at work on Sunday and checked out what was on the new book shelf, I came across The Enchanted Hour: The Miraculous Power of Reading Aloud in the Age of Distraction
by Meghan Cox Gurdon.
I instantly became excited to check out this book as I’ll be talking about books with soon-to-be teachers at a presentation this evening. And I’m working on two presentations about the importance of reading aloud for parents at a preschool and as a parent workshop at the library too.
I’ve already been reading aloud parts of the book to my partner – facts that I have found interesting, statistics, just to share what I’m learning. I’ve only gotten through the introduction and first chapter, but can’t wait to learn more!
The Slice of Life Challenge is something new I’m trying this month! I’ll be posting brief posts that show a glimpse of my life in story-format. A slice of my life as a librarian and blogger that I hope you enjoy!

This book looks great! It is so important to continue to practice good reading skills in the midst of the technology boom! Nothing will ever beat a classic read aloud (in my opinion!). I hope your presentation goes well!

I don’t know how, but I’ve never read or heard of this book. I am such a believer in the author’s message though. Can’t wait to check it out. Thanks for slicing about it today.
