#nf10for10 Making a Difference
I look forward to posting this each year! It’s Nonfiction 10 for 10 day! The brain child of Mandy Robek, Cathy Mere, and Julie Balen to explore nonfiction titles to share in the classroom, library, or at home. I participated last year with a fun list of prehistoric titles from cave paintings to dinosaurs.
This year, I decided to create a list of titles about people who have made a difference in the world – from kids to adults who have helped to change our world for the better! A few of my titles may lean a little more towards fiction as they are inspired by true events. We could all use a little reminder that everyone can make a difference, no matter how young you are!
- The Youngest Marcher: The Story of Audrey Faye Hendricks, a Young Civil Rights Activist by Cynthia Levinson
- Follow the Moon Home: A Tale of One Idea, Twenty Kids, and a Hundred Sea Turtles by Philippe Cousteau and Deborah Hopkinson
- The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer
- Maybe Something Beautiful:
- How Art Transformed a Neighborhood
- by F. Isabel Campoy, Theresa Howell
- One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference by Katie Smith Milway
- The Water Princess by Susan Verde
- Brave Girl: Clara and the Shirtwaist Makers’ Strike of 1909 by Michelle Markel
- Seeds of Change: Planting a Path to Peace by Jen Cullerton Johnson
- One Plastic Bag: Isatou Ceesay and the Recycling Women of Gambia by Miranda Paul
- Harvesting Hope: The Story of Cesar Chavez by Kathleen Krull
And I know the whole point is to only list ten titles, but I just reviewed this title in the fall and I had to add it to the list! Never Too Young!: 50 Unstoppable Kids Who Made a Difference by Aileen Weintraub. Check out my review and take a look because you can easily read aloud about a different kid every day in just a few minutes to be inspired!

Thank you for joining with us and your bonus really peaked my interest. Sometimes ten plus one is just what we need! The Youngest Marcher and Harvesting Hope are new to me and ones I’ll explore.

I just saw “Never Too Young” on another list, time to find it! Thanks for sharing these, Laura. I’ve read & enjoyed each one except “Harvesting Home”. I know about Cesar Chavez but not this book about him. Thanks for reminding me of the beauty of picture books that celebrate those who make a difference!
