#blogbookaday: Kitten and the Night Watchman
Summary:
“The night watchman hugs his wife and kids and drives to work.
All night he is alone.
Every hour he makes his rounds.
Meeeoooow.
When he is joined by a stray kitten, the night suddenly seems different. Has the kitten found a new home?
Kitten and the Night Watchman is inspired by the true story of author John Sullivan meeting a stray cat while working as a night watchman. The cat, Beebe, was John’s companion for seventeen years. ” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review:
The night watchman makes his rounds through the construction site listening to the sounds of animals, cars, and planes, and discovers a little kitten who follows him back to his office. After a long night, the night watchman decides to take the little kitten home to his family.
Personal Reaction:
I loved this sweet (true) story of a night watchman and his rescue kitten. John Sullivan does a great job of using onomatopoeia to create the sounds of the night. And Taeeun Yoo creates shadows that play well with the text. Pair this with Night Job by Karen Hesse for a storytime about parents who work the night shift!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!

Isn’t this book just beautiful?!
Laura Arnhold
I loved it’s simplicity and how it shows a different type of job! Plus, it’s based on a true story – how cute is that?!?!?
