#blogbookaday: All the Animals Where I Live
Summary:
“Phil Stead takes us on a tour of all of the animals near his home.
The author used to live in the busy city where there were buses and trains, and people waiting for buses and trains.
Now he lives in the country and takes us on a tour of his home, pointing out all the animals that share his space. There are stuffed bears and quilted chickens. His dog Wednesday watches cranes, frogs, and dragonflies live their lives. Coyotes and chipmunks come and go, and the world around where he lives is full of life, until winter comes, and there is nothing but snow.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review:
Philip Stead takes on a walk around his home as he introduces the reader to all the animals real (and stuffed toys) that live there. It’s as much a walk down memory lane as it is getting to know his dog, Wednesday.
Personal Reaction:
Philip Stead has an amazing voice that is calm, quiet and poetic. And this story is no different. The page turns in this book are phenomenal! Each time adding just a little more to the story to give it such depth and interest. The illustrations are done with gorgeous print and ink drawings in a calming, soft palette. This would make a beautiful bedtime story. And once you’re finished you could talk about what you can see outside your own window.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
