#blogbookaday: Wallpaper
Summary:
“New from the creator of Skunk on a String comes Wallpaper, a wordless picture book in Thao Lam’s signature paper collage style. It tells the story of a young girl whose family moves into a new house. Outside, she can hear other kids playing, but she’s too shy to say hello. So she picks at the old wallpaper in her room―revealing an entryway to a fantastic imaginary adventure world behind the walls.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review:
This was a fascinating and imaginative story about a young girl who is afraid to go out and make new friends and instead jumps into the wallpaper in her bedroom where she encounters some surprising characters. I think that with very few words, this book’s true power lies in the illustrations and how well the story is told through them.
Personal Reaction:
I really liked this story and how the young girl’s adventure leads her to become brave and reach out to the kids playing outside her window. Each layer of wallpaper created a new environment and the collage style illustrations worked really well in creating these layers. I love when emotion can be seen so clearly in illustrations and this book was so easy to read in a wordless style.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
