#blogbookaday: Franklin and Luna Go To the Moon

Franklin and LunaSummary:

“Luna’s best friend, Franklin, is a dragon. They love to read stories about everything from trampolining to deep-sea diving. One day, they are reading about where werewolves live and Franklin begins to wonder where he is from. He is 605 years old and has no idea where to find other dragons!

Luna suggests that they go on an adventure to find his family. They Google his family tree, they e-mail a princess, and along the way they find twenty yetis eating spaghetti, five vampires reading Shakespeare, not to mention disco-dancing unicorns . . . but no dragons!

Where on earth could they be?

Following the success of Franklin’s Flying Bookshop, Franklin and Luna Go to the Moon― a book about the joys of reading, exploring, and coming home― continues to bring the magic of classic fairy tales into the twenty-first century.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review:

Luna and Franklin love to read stories and plan adventures to see yetis, vampires, mermaids, werewolves, and more. Luna suggests they go on their greatest journey yet to find Franklin’s family. Franklin and Luna finally find his family on the moon where they learn to sing dragon songs, play space hockey, and bake stardust scones. They promise to visit again soon!

Personal Reaction:

I  haven’t read the first story about Franklin and Luna, but I’m excited to find it as this was a fun story about adventure, family, and home. I love how much Luna and Franklin love to read and how they practice map reading and speaking languages like Mermish and Gobbledegook. What I really liked is that the author used words like selkies and harpies as well as more common fantastical creatures like ghosts and fairies. This book does feel exactly like a fairy tale and I can see that kids would love this if they like unicorns, dragons, and adventure.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
