#blogbookaday: King Alice
Summary:
“Alice and her family are stuck indoors on a snowy day. Alice loves to read, and when her dad suggests that she make her own book, she snaps out of her “I’m bored” mode and makes up a story that lasts till the lights go out later that night.
Here is a book that celebrates books, reading, and an imaginative way that one family handles being housebound.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review:
It’s a snow day and Alice is looking for something fun to do that her parents approve of. Not lacking in imagination, Alice decides to write and illustrate a book. Her story lasts all day long and into the evening as King Alice the First chronicles the day’s event with brave knights, princess tea parties and unicorn stampedes.
Personal Reaction:
For families who need to get the creative juices flowing is the perfect story to share on a snow day. And then the whole family can write their own story together. I love that Alice insists on being a king, not a queen, how she must apologize to her dad after the unicorn stampede, and how her family loves all her crazy antics anyway! I love that King Alice has interracial parents and a messy baby brother. It looks like so many families I know and I love that! Check this book out for a day when the family stays inside together!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
