Review:
Potato is beyond excited to buy some potato pants! But, after an unfortunate meeting with Eggplant yesterday, Potato isn’t sure he can be in the same store as Eggplant. The potato pants are selling like hotcakes, what’s a potato to do? Does Potato buy a pair of potato pants? Does he confront Eggplant about his behavior yesterday? Find out in this hysterical story about potatoes of all kinds buying pants of all shapes, sizes, colors, and patterns!
Personal Reaction:
I love when an author you know and love delivers on their brand. Laurie Keller is a hysterical author/illustrator of The Scrambled States of America, Arnie the Doughnut, and Do Unto Otters. She’s great with wordplay and her pictures make me laugh out loud! One of my most favorite pages is the spread of all the potatoes running into Lance Vance’s Fancy Pants Store! I love how Laurie uses all sorts of creative mediums to create the page – markers, colored pencils, acrylic paint, pen and ink, potato stamps, collage, and digital drawing. Her drawings beg for kids to pour over them, taking in all the little details that make this book so fun to read. This is definitely a great story to read to older preschool and young elementary school age kids who will get the humor and really enjoy reading it!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
