#blogbookaday: Saffron Ice Cream
Summary: “Rashin is excited about her first visit to the beach in her family’s new home. On the way there, she remembers what beach trips were like in Iran, the beautiful Caspian Sea, the Persian music, and most of all, the saffron ice cream she shared with her best friend, Azadeh. But there are wonderful things in this new place as well — a subway train, exciting music… and maybe even a new friend!” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: Rashin is excited to visit an American beach, but she can’t help but compare it to the beach trips her family went on in Iran. She soon learns that different can still be fun and meets a new friend along the way.
Personal Reaction: I really liked this sweet story about a little girl’s experience in one location and the differences she encounters when they move to America and visit the beach. I think this is something that a lot of kids will relate to – not just moving from one country to another, but even to a new town. This is a great title to share with families just immigrating to America, who will definitely see themselves in Rashin’s experience and would be a wonderful read aloud to a classroom to talk about how differences are just that, different and not good or bad).

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
