#blogbookaday: Mabel and Sam At Home
Summary: “This playful and endearing book celebrates imaginative play as Mable and Sam move into a new house and make it their own. They sail the high seas of their new home, tour the intriguing museum of their living room, journey through outer space to the safety of their own beds, and discover how far afield—and how close to home—imagination can take them. Funny and engaging, this celebration of moving in and settling in is both heart-warming and house-warming.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: Mabel and Sam have moved into a new home and using their imagination they become more familiar with their new home through a sailing ship, a tour through a museum of familiar and yet not so familiar artifacts and in a space ship as they ready get ready for bed! With a bossy older sister and a little brother that asks a lot of questions, this story will surely resonate with little ones who are adjusting to a new home!
Personal Reaction: I liked how this was actually three different stories that could read sequentially or as needed. I moved about a month or two into Kindergarten into a much bigger home and though I don’t remember much about the process, I do remember being nervous to go to a new school and meet new friends. I think young children would really enjoy reading this story in preparation for moving or just after moving as they are adjusting to where things can be found, all the boxes and more.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
