Weekend Plans: Princeton Children's Book Festival

I’m excited for some fun weekend plans after a really crazy week at work (think budget entries, interview questions, and policy updates). This Saturday, September 22 is the annual Princeton Children’s Book Festival from 11am – 4pm.

With over 80 authors and illustrators, it’s an amazing way to get to meet so many children’s book people all in one space. I love seeing kids so excited to meet a favorite author, families choosing which books they want to purchase and for me, I get the chance to get a number of titles signed for Christmas and birthday gifts for the littles in my life.

When my grad school roommate was the first of my close friends to start having kids, I got her daughter signed copies of books for Christmas and her birthday. Now, I’m up to eight kids I buy for (plus for my own personal library) and I love being able to pick out some great titles for a special gift. The kids get something that they most likely won’t receive from anyone else and a curated, signed library as they get older.

Each year for the festival, I create a list of authors and illustrators I want to visit and the titles I’m looking for and pair them with the kids I’m buying for, plus there’s always a good number of authors and illustrators I want to add to my personal library.

I have seen her give these signed books in person and let me tell you the children’s eyes light up every time. The children then hand it back to her so she can read it to them. Books can create many special memories.
