#blogbookaday: Kings of the Castle
Summary: “George didn’t want to waste the night moonbathing. He wanted to build a sandcastle that would turn any monster green-eyed with envy. But when George meets the strangest creature he has ever seen, the night takes an unexpected turn.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: George wanted to build the most amazing sand castle ever and when he meets a stranger on the beach, the night turns out better than George could have ever expected.
Personal Reaction: I picked this up and immediately thought of Where the Wild Things Are as the cover is reminiscent of the Sendak’s cover. This story has decidedly less rumpus and much more friendship when the stranger you meet doesn’t speak the same language as you. But, George and Nepo (the stranger) draw pictures to understand each other and in the end make the most magnificent sand castle there ever was and more importantly become good friends in the process. If you wanted to offer an art project for kids – show them the two different covers and then have them create their own cover from the inspiration. A perfect end of the summer time beach story!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
