#blogbookaday: 5 Little Ducks
Summary: “Make way for another perfect preschool picture book by Caldecott Honor recipient Denise Fleming!
Featuring a flock of oh-so-adorable fuzzy ducklings, this delightfully fresh take on the classic Five Little Ducks nursery rhyme emphasizes numbers and the days of the week—and these lucky ducklings are doted on by a loving Papa Duck as well as the traditional Mama. Young readers won’t be able to resist counting—and quacking—along!” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: A new take on the nursery rhyme/song Five Little Ducks, Denise Fleming adds the father duck to the story and they days of the week making this adventure story a great concept book as well! Plus, the story is filled with all sorts of animals to find and identify. I can definitely see this being a popular storytime read aloud for preschool age kids!
Personal Reaction: I loved the combination of counting down from five combined with the days of the week, making this a great concept book for toddlers and preschoolers. It’s also a familiar children’s song which I think will encourage kids to follow all the little ducks on each of their adventures. At the end of the story, there is a spread that shares some facts about the animals the little ducks meet on their adventures. Denise Fleming has a unique illustration style using pulp painting, check it out online, it’s a really cool process!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
