#blogbookaday: The Princess and the Pit Stop
Summary: “Once upon a time there was a Princess . . .
. . . who made a pit stop.
While the Birds and Beasts changed her tires, her Fairy Godmother told her she was in last place! With just one lap left! She might as well give up!
Give up? Not THIS princess! Instead, she hit the gas!
Join Her Royal Highness in the driver’s seat for a mad dash to the finish in this exciting ode to auto racing. With appearances by fairy tale favorites including the Tortoise and the Hare, the Frog Prince, and ALL of the Wicked Witches, this rollicking mash-up of race cars and royalty is a true celebration of both girl power and horsepower.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: The Princess has one lap to go and is in last place, so rather than giving up she puts the pedal to the metal, passing folk and fairy tale characters that we all know and love in a race to the finish line.
Personal Reaction: I loved a Princess who wasn’t waiting to be rescued and instead took matters into her own hands and kicked butt doing it! She refuses to give up, even when she’s in last place. I loved the vocabulary Angleberger uses to describe the play-by-play and Santat’s illustrations create the perfect “race” feeling with bright bold colors and lots of movement. This one’s for the families looking for a princess book that’s just a little different from the typical!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
