It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 8/27/18
Personally, life’s been getting back on track – still have a lot of remodeling that needs to happen because of the flooding, but other than we’re getting back to “normal.” Work’s been busy as the summer winds down and Summer Reading will be officially done on Friday. I’m hoping that it’ll quiet down just a little as, I think we all need a bit of a break.
As far as reading is concerned, I read Welcome Home an anthology of adoption-themed short stories compiled and edited by Eric Smith which was absolutely fabulous. I’m usually not keen on short stories as I always want to know more. But, these stories were really well done. Each one shared a different perspective of foster care, adoption, and what it means to be a family. And I think that’s what made it so powerful – every family is different and unique and that’s exactly what this group of stories shared. I also started Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi, it’s a Rick Riordan presents story to share more books centered around mythology and what I love is that Rick doesn’t claim to be knowledgeable about mythology from around the world and has instead paired up with other authors who are familiar with the culture and mythology to present a book that is just as action-packed as the Percy Jackson stories, but also true to form.
As far as this week goes, I’m working for the first part and then headed to Wisconsin for my uncle’s wedding. It’s a long trip, but I’ll get the chance to spend some time with my parents and extended family. My hope is that I’ll still get a chance to read a few things, so here’s what I’ve got:
- Louisiana’s Way Home by Kate DiCamillo
- The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart
- The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig (already read, but I’ve got to re-read to read book #2)
- The Ship Beyond Time by Heidi Heilig
