#blogbookaday: All Are Welcome
Summary: “Follow a group of children through a day in their school, where everyone is welcomed with open arms. A school where kids in patkas, hijabs, and yamulkes play side-by-side with friends in baseball caps. A school where students grow and learn from each other’s traditions and the whole community gathers to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
All Are Welcome lets young children know that no matter what, they have a place, they have a space, they are welcome in their school.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: With a wide range of diversity on the page, this story about a day at school shows kids that all are welcome and have a space to call their own at school – to be friends with kids who are different from you, to learn about different cultures, food, games and stories. This is the type of story that needs to be read (and reinforced) in every classroom this school year.
Personal Reaction: If you don’t have a read aloud for the first day of school… this is it. If you’ve already started school, this should be the next book you read aloud – the perfect introduction to celebrating diversity in a school and community setting. This is a must-have for classroom and school libraries specifically, and for everyone else’s home bookshelf!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
