#blogbookaday: New Shoes

New Shoes.jpgSummary:  “When your shoes are
worn out
too tight
faded and flat
—guess what?
It’s time to get NEW SHOES!
Two-time Caldecott Medalist Chris Raschka pays homage to a quintessential moment of childhood—a visit to the shoe store—in this book about shoes, growing up, making choices, and sharing with friends.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A simple story about a child growing out of their old shoes and going to pick out new shoes. With step-by-step instructions, this would also make a great story to teach kids what to expect when visiting the shoe store – getting your feet measured, picking out new shoes, trying them on, etc.

Personal Reaction: I love the perspective of this story as you are looking down at feet the entire book, you don’t see the characters faces at all and with Chris Raschka’s stylized watercolors, children get to experience a different type of style and medium. It took me about halfway through the story to realize that the gutter of each page (where the pages are bound together) is a different color, which is something different that you don’t see very often. Overall, this would be the perfect story about feet for storytime, a great easy reader title for kids just beginning to read and the perfect how-to for getting new shoes!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
