#blogbookaday: Prickly Hedgehogs!
Summary: “Who is that small and prickly creature? Visit a hedgehog mom and her babies as she teaches them to survive on their own.
When the sun has set, Hedgehog’s day has only just begun. She’s out and about, snuffling through layers of leaves and twigs as she searches for bugs and other things to eat. Young animal lovers will enjoy following Hedgehog and her little hoglets through towns and gardens, parks and woodland, as they sniff-sniff-sniff for food. The facts threaded throughout this inviting story augment the charming illustrations and will satisfy the most inquisitive of readers. ” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: A perfect mix between story and facts, Prickly Hedgehogs takes you through a year in the life of a baby hedgehog as it learns to hunt, builds a home and gets ready to hibernate all winter long. With additional, sidebar facts this is the perfect story for little ones who always ask why!
Personal Reaction: I adored the mixed media illustrations that keep the story beautiful and accurate. Plus with an afterword of more information about hedgehogs, an index, and some more resources about hedgehogs available in the back of the book, this makes for a really great STEM title for little ones – accessible, adorable, and fun!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
